Creation of cases, conservation boxes and book supports

The workshop creates all types of enclosures that ensure the protection of your books and graphic documents. These can include boxes, conservation folders, cases… covered in leather, cloth, and paper, with or without titling.

To facilitate the secure presentation of ancient books, we also offer custom-made book supports (lecterns) in cardboard.

Creation of a Case to Preserve a Silver Roll

Private Collection (2022)

After restoration, it was essential to provide this precious silver roll, which protects a manuscript parchment leaf, with a perfect enclosure. A custom-made box covered in acrylic-coated cotton fabric, and fitted with plastazote foam wrapped in micro-perforated polyethylene, was designed.

Creation of Conservation Boxes for Writing Desks

Louvre Museum, Department of Islamic Arts, Paris (2019)

The Department of Islamic Arts entrusted us with creating custom boxes to ensure the preservation of precious lacquered writing desks produced in Iran during the 19th century.

The writing desk is placed on a removable tray. A plastazote foam cut to the size of the writing desk and wrapped in Tyvek® is then inserted into a conservation box covered in Buckram® cloth.

Creation of Conservation Boxes

Colmar Archives, Colmar (2022)

Creation of a custom conservation box in gray Buckram® cloth.

The document is mounted on a conservation board using mylar strips. This assembly rests on a plastazote foam, all covered with Tyvek®. The seal areas are cut out to securely house them and are then covered with antique conservation board to enhance the aesthetic appearance.

Creation of a Multi-Tiered Case for Liberté j’écris ton nom by Paul Éluard and Fernand Léger

Jacques Doucet Literary Library, Paris (2021)

Paul Éluard and Fernand Léger collaborated in 1953 with Pierre Seghers on this edition of Liberté j’écris ton nom. It takes the form of a fold-out poem, illustrated with Léger’s stencil-printed drawings, inserted into a transparent plastic case.

As the case presented significant fragilities, it was decided not to reinsert the fold-out into the case but to create a box that combines the two elements, thus ensuring their preservation.

Creation of a Conservation Box for Silver Clasps

National Library of France, Paris (2021)

To ensure the preservation of silver clasps with uncertain provenance, the BnF entrusted us with creating a custom box that includes slots lined with polyethylene film to allow for the individualized placement of the pieces.

Creation of Book Supports (Lecterns)

Pierre-Noël Museum, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges (2022)

The Pierre-Noël Museum in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges organizes temporary exhibitions, for which it requests loaned books from the National Library of France.

Since 2020, the museum has entrusted us with creating conservation-grade cardboard lecterns tailored to the usability and format of the books.
